A fine example of churches working together

The congregation of the Moravian Church in Horton, Bradford, have been keen supporters of the Gianna Project for a few years now. In previous years, they have taken part in our Christmas Appeal, ‘When a Child is Born’, enabling us to place a Moses basket in their church and inviting us to share the wonderful day to day work of the Gianna Project.

Last weekend, we were invited to their Coffee morning as the proceeds of this event were being shared between the Gianna Project & another local charity. We took the opportunity to invite some of our Gianna families along and I have to say, we were made very welcome by the whole Social Committee team.
Elisabeth Hollindrake, who is part of this team, was keen to show us the wonderful knitting work, which many members of the congregation are currently involved with. They are each knitting individual squares, which once completed, will be sewn together to make a baby blanket… or two, for the Gianna Project.

On arrival to the church hall, we were met with a fantastic wall display, which illustrates our work, to their church community.
The knitted squares were all on display & we are excited & looking forward to seeing the end result, which we’re hoping will look similar to this lovely blanket, kindly donated to us on Saturday.

Not only did we have time for tea and cakes, but one of our mums received excellent 1:1 knitting tuition and returned home, very excited, having learnt a new skill.
She left armed with some knitting needles & a selection of wool to practice her new found hobby.
As this lady said, the Gianna Project is not just about passing on baby clothes & equipment……… but it has given mums like her the opportunity to meet new people, visit new places & now learn a new skill.
