This year Catholic Care and Corpus Christi College formed a partnership to deliver a 2 week Summer School transition programme to children from local primary schools in year 6 making their transition to Corpus Christi College in September.
Jess Hall Catholic Care Worker and Summer School Leader said “It’s been an amazing two weeks and the children have been great! They have engaged really well in all the activities such as canoeing, arts and crafts, orienteering, team building and relationship work. The programme has really helped reduce the anxieties that children have around coming up to high school and has in fact made them feel ‘excited’ about the transition and seeing their new friends again in September”.
The Summer School has proved to be winning combination proving a menu of sports, arts and social activities together with fun taster lessons.
The children have played games to help them navigate the building in preparation for the start of year 7 in September; the programme will really give the children a head start at this potentially stressful time.
Bethany said “I’ve enjoyed meeting new people and playing a lot of games. Yeadon Tarn was really, really good!”
Pritiva Attiken Catholic Care Worker said ‘ This was my first experience of Summer School and I feel it is at the cutting edge of great social work practice: bringing people together, finding common ground and connecting with one another.’
Joshua said “I was worried about getting lost in school and making new friends but I don’t feel worried anymore, I know my way around the school and have made some new friends this week”
See you all in September!
