The international day for older people (IDOP) is an annual event held on 1st October.
The United Nations, in recognising the important contributions that older people make to society around the world, while raising awareness towards issues of ageing, designated the 1st October as the international day of older persons.
The day is celebrated with a number of community events and this year’s theme for 2016 is
‘Mental Wellbeing with a focus on arts and culture’.
Catholic Care provides services for older people, enabling people to come together to participate in groups that deliver gentle exercise; meet regularly in friendship groups; meet at weekly lunch clubs, as well as delivering services to people within their own home. Our staff and volunteers take time getting to know each person who attends the groups, which address the issues of loneliness and isolation, health and well being and diet and nutrition.
