Normanton, 7th August 2017, and our Monday Friends group came together with other parishioners from the parish of St John the Baptist and people from the local area to enjoy a morning of “memories with family and friends”.
We held event to celebrate international day of friendship and provided an opportunity for people to take a trip down memory lane and reminisce about family life, and the working day as well as leisure from years gone by.
Laura Walker, Catholic Care’s development worker for Wakefield and Huddersfield organised the event and was supported on the day by Age UK, who undertook a gentle exercise class and reminiscence activity, Wakefield libraries who were on hand to talk about local and family history and provided displays from the home, sporting memorabilia and the national coal mining museum.
The event proved a big success with the room filled with the chatter and laughter of people’s memories, and many people in the photographs on show being recognised. The conversation flowed over tea, coffee and cake, with those attending saying they had enjoyed a really interesting morning and hoped there would be another similar event.
