Monday Friends enjoy a festival of Christmas carols

What can we say about teenagers today? Cheery; polite, attentive, confident and talented. Surprised?, not if you were invited by year 10 of Cardinal Heenan Catholic High School in Leeds to their  Christmas showcase which they presented to older people of which St John’s Normanton Monday Friends group happily attended. It was the second year we were invited and it was the hottest ticket in town. There were many conversations from November onwards in anticipation of getting the invitation. Twelve group members attended and from the moment we were greeted at the main entrance nothing was too much trouble for the young people involved. We were shown to our seats and throughout the afternoon they ensured each and every one of us had enough tea and coffee, sandwiches cake and mince pies. There was continuous entertainment from the choir singing traditional carols, which we were encouraged to participate in, to solo performances of more contemporary music and dance.

Two games of bingo and a raffle were enjoyed and in the spirit of Christmas every person won something. Lunch followed and prior to leaving, with a warming sherry in hand, hampers were distributed to all in the group which were cheerily carried to the mini bus. Christmas wishes were exchanged and all were quick to say “see you next year” when we learned our names were saved on the schools data base ready for next year’s invites!
