This year a Community Summer School took place at St Bede’s and St Joseph’s School in Bradford. For 2 weeks children aged 5 -13 came together with school and Catholic Care schools team staff to play and learn.
Activities included arts and crafts, swimming at the on site pool and multi-sports including, mountain biking, climbing, tennis and football. Children from the local Catholic primary schools have really enjoyed learning new activities and making new friends. It was a special 2 weeks for the year 6 primary school children who will be joining the high school as the New Year 7’s in September. The summer school has given these children the opportunity to get to know the school environment and geography which will help ease transition at this important time.
Jade said ‘the summer school has been great, I have really enjoyed being with the staff from Catholic Care, I also have enjoyed all the activities but I really liked making the photo frames and decorating the jam jars.’
Owen (Catholic Care worker) said ‘the summer school has given the local children the opportunity to have fun and relax but also the year 6 children a great opportunity to get to know the school’
Leon said ‘the dance session was great; I didn’t even think I could dance! But the dance teacher put all our moves together and it looked really cool’
Pinkee (Catholic Care worker) said ‘It has been a great 2 weeks, the staff team have had a great time working with children from the Bradford community, it has been a good example of partnership working. We are all a bit tired now but it’s been a wonderful experience!’
Well done everyone!
