Volunteers bring Christmas Cheer to older people

Christmas can be a difficult time for many older people, some even find themselves alone. With this in mind, the senior citizens of St Roberts Parish Church in Harrogate were invited to a pre-Christmas meal.

The staff at the Parish Centre put up the Christmas tree, decorated the hall and laid a festive table ready for the guests to arrive. Mgr Donal Lucey welcomed everyone to the event and opened the lunch by saying Grace. As the finishing touches were made to the meal, crackers were pulled, the wine poured and the seasonal music could be barely heard over the sound of conversation and laughter.

The quality of the meal, prepared by the staff at Giannis Brio, was excellent and was quickly and efficiently served by young people from the parish, staff from St Roberts Centre and volunteers from Catholic Care who came together to support this special event.

The afternoon ended with acknowledgment all round for those who had played a part in this wonderful seasonal event, then it was coats on, farewell greetings exchanged before the cleaning up began.
