International Older People’s Day

Yesterday, October 1st 2020, marked 30 years of international older people’s day.
Many events due to take place where people would gather together have been cancelled. 2020 has been a challenging year with the severe impact that the Covid-19 pandemic has brought on older people. Today is a time to raise awareness of older people’s issues and this year particularly around their health needs. Many older people have found themselves vulnerable to being isolated and feeling lonely and it has been vital that we Maintain contact by giving people a phone call with time to have a conversation and offer a listening ear, by providing hot meals, hampers and afternoon teas which have been welcomed and appreciated. Knowing that people care and remember them helps people feel positive about the future when we can gather once again.
