Catholic Care’s Community Cafe and Market, part of the charity’s Holiday Hunger Project was open for business again during the October half-term holidays at St Anthony’s Hall in Beeston, Leeds. Families joined us for a healthy breakfast of toast, fruit and pastries with hot drinks or fresh juice. After enjoying their breakfast families were able to take part in a market shop with items such as fresh fruit, vegetables, fresh bread and essential non-perishable items. Food poverty for families is more acute in the school holidays when children do not have access to free school meals and the family budget often has to stretch to beyond breaking point. The children enjoyed playing with the toys and games as well as a special holiday pass the parcel game we even had a toy raffle! A good morning was had by all, see you again next time.
