A Visit to our Yeadon Friendship Group, from the Lord Mayor of Leeds

An important visit!

On Tuesday 6th January, the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Dan Cohen, attended Catholic Care’s Friendship Group in Yeadon.

We were grateful to hear his incredible story and learn about his passion for Leeds, which brought laughter and smiles to everyone listening.

The Lord Mayor spoke about change, reflecting on Leeds’ growing industry and development, while also emphasising the importance of unity across communities. He highlighted that people of faith share more common ground than differences.

Thanks to a great question from Liam, one of our volunteers who has a learning disability, the Lord Mayor spoke about his chosen cause, Leeds Mencap , who, like Catholic Care, support people with learning disabilities.

We’re so grateful that the Lord Mayor took the time to meet with us, and we look forward to hosting him at our Food Pantry in Leeds on Thursday 8th January too.

Can you help raise money for Catholic Care?

The Community Services at Catholic Care hold a special place in Community Manager, Michelle Vink and her husband Steven’s hearts, as each week the Team reach out to 500+ service users from the various stay and play groups, lunch groups, friendships groups, exercise groups, knit and natter groups, to the Gianna Baby Bank and Community Market/Pantry.

In Michelle’s own words:
“It is a privilege to work in the Community Team as we see first hand how a little support can go a long way! Funding over the last year has been difficult so it is with this in mind we have decided to put our running and walking shoes on! Steve is going to run the London Marathon next year and I am going to walk 20 miles between some of the groups locations we support each week.

Now most people know that Steve’s a runner but he has never done a Marathon and most people will also know I drive everywhere so it’s going to be quite the task!”

Michelle and Steven would be extremely grateful of your support and any opportunity you have to donate to our Charity.
