Not Just Carers, But Family

Until his death on 7th January this year, Tin Chan was a resident at Oakdene, one of Catholic Care’s supported living home for adults with a learning disability. Tin’s brother Jimmy has kindly written a tribute to the team at Oakdene for their outstanding care.

From the very first day of Tin moving into Oakdene on 23rd March 2020, my brother was very poorly and challenging with many issues including dementia.
Oakdene staff all rallied to assist, care, and support him day and night, including many trips to hospital via ambulance which often lasted many hours.
Staff never abandoned Tin for a minute. Caring staff assisted him with visits to the doctor, dentist, audiology, podiatry, optician, etc.

Tin enjoyed immensely regular days out to Skipton’s Bizzie Lizzie and Costa Coffee, and also to Crosshill’s Trawlerman Restaurant.

I kept repeating to the caring staff that ‘I never have to ring Oakdene to check on Tin because I know he’s in the best possible place with the best carers caring for him’. Oakdene staff would promptly inform me with any updates, as and when.

I have nothing but admiration for all the Catholic Care staff, and their families too, as they all knew Tin as well.

An extra thank you to all the staff during Tin’s sad final days, ensuring he was not alone throughout the days and nights. You were not just his carers, but his family. Thank you.
